Summer Term

The Rainforest

This term our topic has a Geography focus. We will be starting by looking at creating art work based on rainforest animals, including developing our sketching skills. Our geography work will include map skills, comparing the Amazon River and its surrounding area with the local area and look at the geographical features of the areas.

In Science, we will cover lifecycles of plants and animals and how animals have adapted to live in the Rainforest. We will also study the impact of deforestation and global warming on the rainforest and the creatures which live there.

Shakespeare Rocks!

We will also be applying our art and DT skills to create props and the backdrop for our play, ‘Shakespeare Rocks’. We will be developing our music and drama skills as we learn the songs and lines.

Over the next term will be writing a variety of different pieces in order to apply the skills we have learned this year. To start the term we will be looking at short stories, including film clips, with a twist! We will be creating different atmospheres within our writing and using speech to move our stories forward.

Our non-fiction writing will be based on our topic, ‘Rainforests’. We will also be applying our editing skills to pieces we have written. Towards the end of the term, we will be focussing on our end of year performance, ‘Shakespeare Rocks’.

In SPaG, we will be revising the skills we have covered and we will be using them in our writing. For spelling, we will focus on strategies to help us remember the year 5/6 statutory spellings.

Over the next term we will be revising all the learning we have completed this year.

We will be continuing to focus on our quick recall of times table on Times Table Rock Stars. The quickest Rock Hero in the school is in Neptune class with an average time of 0.68 per question; over 100 questions answered correctly in 1 minute!
