Positive Recognition and Our House System

At Willowdown, we believe that all children should meet the school expectations and that it is important to recognise when children demonstrate these expectations.

In every class, there is a 'Shout Out' display. Any member of staff can give any child a shout out for demonstrating the school expectations of being safe, being ready and being respectful. The shout out is put on the display, and a certificate also given to the child to take home.

On entry to Willowdown, every child from nursery to Year 6 is put into a house. Children earn house points for upholding our school values - showing love and enthusiasm, achieving well and, respecting and nurturing others. Our House Captains collect the points, total them and announce them in our Celebration Assembly, every Monday. The winning house for the term receive a 'treat' decided by the house.

Children can be awarded a gold coin for exceptional work or behaviour. This counts as 5 house points.

Celebration Assembly:

  • Two children in each class are awarded a scented certificate, one for following our school values and the other for being an amazing learner. Parents are also invited in to share in their success.
  • Children are acknowledged for their focus and effort in sports, for demonstrating a Growth Mindset, table manners and for respecting their classroom for keeping it tidy. In addition the class with the highest attendance for that week, wins the attendance cup!

We also have a number of house events over the year: a school Sports Day and a House Poetry Competition.
